A serial killer, who began his spree with murdering a 10-year-old and an 8-year-old in Watertown, is dead himself.
Arthur Shawcross died last night after he went into cardiac arrest.
Shawcross was convicted of murdering 11 women from 1988 to 1990, many of them prostitutes in the Rochester area.
He was serving a 250 year prison-sentence.
In 1972, Shawcross was convicted of the Watertown killings of 10-year-old Jack Owen Blake and 8-year-old Karen Ann Hill.
That year, Karen Anne Hill’s body was found beneath the Pearl Street Bridge.
At the time of his arrest, Shawcross also confessed to murdering Jack Blake, but he did not serve time for that killing.
Instead, Shawcross made a plea deal and was paroled 15 years later, moving to the Rochester area.
He was convicted of killing several prostitutes, a homeless woman and other innocent victims and sentenced to 250 years in prison, the maximum sentence.
