The actor received the award for his portrayal as the ruthless villain, 'The Joker' in the blockbuster'Batman sequel film 'The Knight' last night,'E Online!' reported.
Ledger, who died from an overdose of prescription drugs in January, was nominated for his character as a gay cowboy in the 2005 film "Brokeback Mountain'.
The actor is a strong contender for Oscars in the Best Supporting Actor category for his character of 'The Joker'.
He has already won this year's Australian Film Institute's international best actor award.
'Wall-E', the animated film from Disney-Pixer received the Best Picture award while British director Danny Boyle was named Best Director for his film 'Slumdog Millionaire'.
Actor Sean Penn was named Best Actor for his role in the film 'Milk' and Penelope Cruz was honoured for her supporting role in 'Elegy'.
